2023 Fiddle Orchestra

2022 Fiddle Orchestra breakout session with Charlie Walden

For Grade school through high school age string players

Calling all violin, viola, cello, string bass, guitar and mandolin players!

This year’s Fiddle Orchestra is for anyone who already plays their instrument, including 5th and 6th grade students who just started in school string programs last fall.  Younger students should be able to play Twinkle Twinkle or a similar song comfortably without stopping. Guitar players should know a few basic chords.

If you have been playing for a while and have developed more skill we can definitely give you challenging parts to play!

Because this is an oral tradition, we will learn by ear, but if you want sheet music we will have that for you to take home. Don’t worry if you’re not used to learning by ear–we know how to get you started!

We’ll play in small breakout groups to learn our parts, and then come together to play it in the big group.  Your teachers are all experienced fiddlers who love playing and teaching dance music!

We’re having a dance on Sunday afternoon, and by the end of the session on Saturday you’ll be ready to sit in with the professional dance band to play a tune for the dancers!

You have to register to participate in Fiddle Orchestra.  The fee is $5, which includes lunch and all teaching materials! Scholarships are readily available; just mention it on the registration form. Use this online registration form.

Please contact us if you have questions.

Here are some other activities that you may like to try this weekend!
