Weekly Workshop / Guided Jam Sessions in
American Stringband Music
Recognizing that there are many grown-up musicians in the C-U area
who would like an opportunity to blow the dust off an old fiddle or
guitar, C4A will be holding Wednesday evening sessions in our
storefront space at Lincoln Square (we’re over by the food court).
Each session will be directed by two C4A music instructors—a fiddler
and a banjo or guitar player—and will alternate between beginner-to-
intermediate, and intermediate-to-advanced. The beginning group
will work on learning
old-time dance music repertoire,
basic ensemble skills, and playing
with confidence and zeal; musicians
with more experience (every other
week) will work on creating dialogue
in phrasing, inventing variations,
learning more technically challenging
tunes, and playing FASTER.
Naturally, everyone is welcome—encouraged in fact—at
any session, and encouraged to bring their favorite tunes to
work up.
Sight-reading skill is not necessary. Participants in the
beginners group should have a minimal level of proficiency
(be able to pick out a tune slowly) and a playable instrument.
The sessions will cost $5 at the door & will go on a week-by-
week basis. No registration or commitment is necessary.
